Q. I have a  white  ring on every image and image is not in focus

A. See the previouse  notes  about the rubber eyering. You need to push the camera against the face to :

1. steady the camera and

2. to block out most of the ambient light.

If there is too much light from a sunny window or overhead  spot  lights ask the patient to hols up a magazine or clipbaord.

Q. Any tips for installation problems ? I have installed (lifecam) on my laptop with no problems, but when I try installing it on my pc (just recently clean installed reformatted etc running windows xp service pack 2) it tells me “ I am out of hard drive space or an unexpected errors have occurred” – I have over 18gb free space on my hard drive so can’t work out what is going on

A. It could be lack of paging space. Right click on 'My Computer', select properties, Advanced. Check performance settings. Under advanced (again!) settings you should see virtual memory allocation. It should be set to roughly the same amount as physical memory if you have about 2GB, about 1.5 times the amount of memory if less than 2GB or about 2GB if less than 1GB (or if you don't want to appear to sophisticated just say set it to 2GB).

If virtual memory is not the culprit then you have mismatched DLL files. One (or more) DLL file is incompatible with the operating system. Trying to find out which one is going to be exceptionally difficult (unless you can see that one of the installed applications may have been designed for Windows 98).

Also hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and take a look at the processes under task manager. Check how much memory they are using and if possible kill the one that uses the most but is not related to system (you need a little bit of experience to find out which one that can be).

The last possibility is a virus but given that the system was recently reinstalled it is not very likely.

Stuffing up of computers is not unusual. Depending on the order of driver install it is possible to corrupt the system in such a way that it will become unusable. It does not mean that the last program installed was bad or corrupted something. It could be any of the bad drivers loaded previously. That's the reason that often it is hard to recommend to even to try to fix it because it may take longer than reinstall of everything (if you lucky) or you may have to reinstall after days of trying (if you are not), Sometimes it's not necessary to need an excuse. My system started to play up a couple of weeks ago for no reason at all, nothing new was installed.

Most likely this lady was just unlucky that she had something installed on her system that got upset by the camera. With almost everybody using a digital camera nowadays they often have various and strange utilities that are used to process the images and data from the camera. Any  of these could interfere with your setup.

Here is a novel solution I found on the web:

"I got lucky and I found a solution to the driver and software problem with the VX-3000"

"The first thing you see when you open your new VX-3000 is a label on the USB plug that tells you specifically to install the software and then plug the webcam.... People.....the answer is simple....  don'tt you ever follow instructions....I followed the instructions and it didn't worked at all the installation from CD.......So I did exactly the opposite...I broke the label....and plugged in the cam......the installation program of Vista began.....asked me for the installation CD....I inserted it.....and VOILA!!.....one camera perfectly installed.

I hope it works for you all...have fun"

I have problems coordinating:” The image moves opposite from what I expect” and

"How can I hold the camera, focus and click at the same time"?

Hum...

Use both hands to set the best focus and then use one hand to hold the handset and one hand to click. You see the distance to the eye is NOT going

to change so you still have the same focus and the next eye will most likely be OK too.

The coordination: It's like looking in the mirror, you must have trouble getting that eyebrow plucked as well.

Just for you we have designed an electronic foot switch that plugs into an USB port so now you can capture HANDS FREE.....

We now have a wireless capture button camera option as well So if coordenation realy is a problem call us. (Sept 08)

Q)“After getting the latest software from the net the program now runs and the camera works OK but I like to play with the

colours. As soon as I click 'properties' from the menu the window pops up and disappears, It just will not stay there.

A)The EyeSpy problems indicate to me that the lady has a corrupted XP install (driver incompatibility - sometimes this happens when you install programs out of

sequence, the catch is that nobody knows what the proper sequence should be). Short of reinstalling Windows she'll always have problems. One thing I would try

before such a drastic step though would be to update display drivers because it sounds like the system is trying to display an image but does not really know her screen attributes. This causes the cursor to wander because again it does not know where the pointer is on the screen. Depending on her chip set if it is a fairly popular graphic adapter she

could install the driver from a CD supplied with some of PC magazines. Other than that its back to downloading XP.

Q)"Why is there a hole for a screw on the handset?"

A)  This handset is used as a microscope as well with the 50x and 200x lenses. A stand can be attached with a screw.

We have the seen the stand advertised for around $ 95 plus GST but we do not have a stand nor screws to fit the hole for sale.

Dec 2007

Help requested: One of the EyeSpy users has problems with the software being temperamental and freezing, crashing she knows it is a

computer/software problem as 6 of her friends all have the EyeSpy and non had any problems at all.

Your advice will be appreciated...

Dec 2007: Problem fixed. Due to having dial-up only, there was no possibility of loading the latest version apparently the

connection was cut after 20 min So when a friend got the latest version on CD for here everything suddenly worked perfectly.

"I find the instructions not enough".

Microsoft, the manufactures of the camera have an instruction sheet consisting of 4 pictures only so they must have thought that it was

that easy to do, that no long winded instructions where required. Also nowadays often, instructions are found in the program

itself (Help) rather than printed on paper. But I have now expanded the written instruction a little...
